Keila SOS Noortekodu välisvabatahtlik Ben

Ben Russel´i esimesed muljed vabatahtlikust teenistusest SOS Lasteküla organisatsioonis.

Olen Eesti SOS Lasteküla Eesti Ühingus esimene vabatahtlik Euroopa vabatahtliku teenistuse programmi raames. Alustasin oma vabatahtlikku tööd kasvatajana augustis 2007 ja lähen kodumaale tagasi detsembri lõpus 2007.

Minu saatvaks organisatsiooniks on SOS Lasteküla Inglismaal ja eestipoolseks koordineerivaks organisatsiooniks on MTÜ Continuous Action.

Olen pärit inglismaalt, Londonist, mis on täiesti teine maailm võrreldes sellega, mille leidsin Eestist. Olen SOS Lasteküla poolt hästi vastu võetud ja tunnen end siin nagu kodus. Elan Keila Noortekodus ja aitan sisustada noorte vaba aega, näiteks oleme käinud kinos, bowlingut ja paintballi mängimas. Samuti tegid noored mulle Tallinna vanalinnas linnaekskursiooni. Olen neile rollimudeliks- kui ühest tegusast noorest vastutustundlikust täiskasvanust.

Minu projekti peamisteks teemadeks on noorte vaba aeg ja noorte kuritegevuse ennetamine nende toetamise kaudu igapäevases elus. Samuti on eesmärgiks suurendada noorte teadlikkust erinevatest kultuuridest, mis ei tulene ainult „igapäevasest kooselust” teisest kultuurist pärit inimesega, vaid inglise keelega tutvumisest, rahvuslikest õhtutest ja kasvõi näiteks inglise filmide vaatamisest.

Suur osa mu tööst ongi seotud inglise keele õpetamisega või noorte juhendamisega kodutööde tegemisel. SOS Hermann Gmeineri algkoolis toimub kahel päeval nädalas inglise keele klubi, kus osalevad 1-4. klassi õpilased vanuses 7-12 aastat, samuti löön kaasa sportlikes ettevõtmistes.

Üks mu isiklikke suuremaid eesmärke on julgustada noori minema väljaspoole Eestit vabatahtlikuks, sama programmi (EVT) raames või miks mitte teha vabatahtlikku tööd Eestis. Minu töö on kuhjaga tasa teenitud, kui kasvõi üks noor otsustab kasutada Euroopa Vabatahtlikku Teenistust. 

Noortekodus töötades saan ma kogemuse noortega töötamisel ja inglise keele õpetamisel, samuti kuidas suhelda eesti keeles ning suurepärase kogemuse elada kuus kuud võõral maal.



IN ENGLISH

I have come here to Estonia as the first EVS funded volunteer to work with the Estonian SOS Children`s Village Association. I have been sent on behalf of the UK SOS children`s Village association and my project is being coordinated by NGO Continuous Action. I am from London in England which is a very different world to the one I have found here in Estonia however I have been immediately made to feel at home by SOS Estonia.

I started my project at the beginning of August 2007 and I will return to England at the end of December 2007.

The main themes of my project here are “youth leisure time” and preventing youth delinquency by supporting them in everyday life. Another of the main themes is to encourage cultural awareness in the youngsters. Simply by having a “foreigner” live with them will help them with this but also by introducing the English language and culture through culture evenings and also other activities such as watching English movies. A big part of my work is helping the youngsters with their English classes and giving extra tuition where needed. I am also holding three after school English clubs in the Hermann Gmeiner School for various ages ranging from 7-12. I also hope to start helping out in the sports lessons at the school very soon.

I live with the teenagers in the SOS Keila Noortekodu and I am responsible for offering them constructive activities in their spare time for example outdoor activities, cinema, theatre, museums etc. I am also here to provide a role model for them as a responsible young adult. One of my main personal aims while I am here is to encourage the youngsters to take part in some voluntary work both here in Estonia and also abroad, my time here will be worthwhile if just 1 youngster takes part in an EVS project in the future.

From my time here with SOS I will gain experience in youth work and also teaching English. I will also learn to communicate in Estonian and have the great experience of living in another country for 6 months.
